Champions Leeds United entered the 1992-93 UEFA Champions League and faced German Champions Vfb Stuttgart in Round 1. Trailing 0-3 after the first leg, the return at Elland Road saw Leeds play their best game of the season and goals from Speed, Cantona, Chapman and McAllister (pen), sealed a 4-1 victory on the night. The Away Goals Rule meant Stuttgart went through but, an ineligible substitution by the Germans reprieved United, and a replay was ordered, to be played at Barcelona's Camp Nou.
